Module 6 Universal Design for Learning and Assistive Technology for Learning

Part A. Web 2.0 Education

As part of this module I created an ebook on Web 2.0 tools for teachers. Here is a link I found helpful for information on Web 2.0 tools.

Part B. Evaluating Web 2.0 tools: A reflection on Web 2.0 Tools and criteria that I would use when selecting them to use in a classroom.

In choosing a web 2.0 tool which would be appropriate for classroom use, it is important to look at certain criteria to be sure that the site is appropriate. Here are some of the criteria that I believe are important in selecting a web 2.0 tool, and why I think that these criteria are important.

1. Accessability: Usability is important in picking a web 2.0 tool, as the site needs to be easily accessible to students to use.

2. Usability: The tool you pick needs to be very user friendly, and not difficult to figure out. This way students will not be confused if using it for a project, and neither will you as you try to present information on it, or encourage students to use the site.

3. Learning style. Does the tool accommodate or aim at a certain learning style? Can it be accommodated for other learning styles? This is important as you will have a wide variety of students in your class with a wide variety of learning styles, and you want to best serve all of them.

4. Curriculum: Will the tool be beneficial for teaching/learning the curriculum? This should be of central importance, as meeting curriculum standards is one of your main aims as a teacher, and these tools need to be of the utmost aid if they are to be beneficial.

5. Fun/interest factor: The tool needs to be fun and interesting to students. It should be fun to use and present, and keep the students or listeners interested in the material being presented, whatever that may be. These are five criteria that I would use to evaluate a web 2.0 tool if I was considering using it in my classroom.
